Process
This short project challenged myself and my partner, Gareth Byrne. The material used in fire hoses is thick, durable and strong. We explored this material through cutting, sewing, gluing and eventually discovered it has excellent grip.
We were tasked with creating a
hanging ornament and due to the fabrics strength and grip we thought a spice rack would be a perfect match.
We began sewing the spice rack leaving the gripped surface of the material on the inside so it could grab onto the various bottles.
After testing these prototypes at home we discovered the spice rack could easily be expanded in scale and be perfectly suited as a wine rack as well, which you can see below.
