For the Adidas project, we were given the brief of taking the iconic brand and developing new ideas concerning materiality, craft, tradition, and culture through graphics, moving images, drawing, research, material investigation, and sampling.
I was working with a group consisting of 5 students: 2 Graphic Design, 1 Illustration, 1 Fashion Design, and myself, Product Design. Working alongside different design disciplines was a great opportunity. I learned so much from seeing how others work and express themselves. We had an instant bond and gained most of our research from chatting and discussing personal experiences with Sport in Ireland. Through teamwork, I learned it's often best to let someone who's the most experienced in a sector tackle those parts to benefit the whole team. I loved listening to my teammate's ideas and sharing mine as well. It's amazing what can be achieved when different designers come together.
For the Adidas project, my group decided to focus on sports in Ireland. We spent a lot of time discussing personal experience in playing GAA. Through these conversations, we decided the most passionate approach we could take to this project would be using these experiences, both positive and negative, and enhancing the sport through change and development. We did so by creating a new approach to the coming of age ceremony in GAA that is, Feile. 2021 marks the 50th anniversary of Feile so we thought there was no better time.
